IDEIA - Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act
is Public Law 108-446, 2004
In 1990, the Amendments (Public Law 101-476) renamed the legislation
as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Autism Spectrum Disorder
were added to the category of disabilities.
Under IDEA, the federal law
that protects students in
special education,
their parents and guardians:
ALL students with disabilities must have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.
